Diversity and Gender Balance We recognise that some sections of the scientific community can be underrepresented within scientific programs and actively try to ensure that the broad diversity of the crystallographic community is represented at the school. As part of this we aim to achieve a good gender balance at the school and to promote the involvement of women in crystallography whilst bearing in mind other diversity needs and an aim to achieve a geographic spread of participants. Within the UK the membership of the British Crystallographic Association has ~36% of non-student members identifying as being female. We believe from our research that this to be similar to that found in other countries. Our aim is therefore to ensure that we have a minimum of 30% of teaching staff that identify as female. The gender balance of the school staff at the last schools was as follows: Teaching Staff (2023): Male 64.71%, Female 35.29%, Prefer not to say 0.00%. Teaching Staff (2021): Male 63.60%, Female 36.40%, Prefer not to say 0.00%. We have only been asking applicants to provide information on the gender with which they identify since the registrations for the 2019 school. When oversubscribed we will aim to ensure at minimum that the percentage of females offered a place is no lower than the percentage of females that applied. The figures for the two previous schools are detailed below and we believe these figures form a good benchmark of the expected gender distribution. School attendees:
Many thanks to our sponsors, without whom it would not be possible to hold the 20th school: |
